Know About Zurich

Zurich is one of the most beautiful city not only of Switzerland but of all world. This city is known for its high quality of life standard of its people. Zurich is now one of the most popular tourist destination in Europe with many great attractions to visit here.

Zurich is the largest city of Switzerland. It is located in Central Switzerland at the north western tip of River Zürich. Due to rapid modernization in the city, there has been a tremendous growth in the tourism industry. People from all over the world visit this city especially for the annual footfall tournament of Zurich. Around 2 million tourists visit this beautiful city annually. Zurich is the mixed hub of railways, roads and airways. The Zurich Airport and Railway Station is one of the busiest and largest in the country.

Zurich is one of the world's most important financial centers with most banking giants having their headquarters situated here. The city is home to a large number of financial institutions and banking giants. Also, most of the research and development centers are concentrated here and the low rate of tax attracts overseas companies to set up their headquarters there.

Rail:

Zürich Hauptbahnhof is the largest and busiest station in Switzerland and is an important railway hub in Europe. It has several other railway stations, including Oerlikon, Stadelhofen, Hardbrücke, Tiefenbrunnen, Enge, Wiedikon and Altstetten. The Cisalpino, InterCityExpress, and even the TGV high-speed trains stop in Zürich.

Airlines:

Zürich international airport is located less than 10 kilometers northeast of the city in Kloten. There is also an airfield in Dübendorf.

Road:

This city is connected by several motorways. Amongst them A1, A2 & A4 are most important. The A1 heads west towards Berne and Geneva and eastwards towards St. Gallen, the A4 leads northwards to Schaffhausen, and the A3 heads northwest towards Basel and southeast along Lake Zurich and Lake Walen towards Sargans.

Zurich is also known for Best Quality of Life as well as the wealthiest city in the Europe. In addition to being called as financial capital of Switzerland, it is sometimes also called as the cultural capital of Switzerland.

Zurich is rich in natural beauty and along with this you can also visit many of the tourist attractions here. Some of these attractions are as below:

Grossmünster

This is an Old Romanesque church and is known as a symbol of Zurich reformation. This is the places where reformer Huldrych Zwingli was elected as people’s priest.

Fraumünster

This is a Gothic church of ancient time and a former convent. You can see amazing window paintings here that were made by Marc Chagall.

Landesmuseum

This is the biggest museum of Switzerland and here you can experience the history of Switzerland. Here you can learn about the various traditions and culture of Switzerland.

Kunsthaus

This museum is a must visit place for Art lovers. You can see various modern sculptures of Giacometti and Fuseli. There is no entry fee for this museum.

Rietberg Museum

This museum is known for its collection of Asian art mainly art form India. This is the best museum of entire Europe that holds Asian arts.

Langstrasse

This is the Red Light district of Zurich. You will be amazed to see that such spots can also be so clean and safe for tourists. You can also enjoy your evening in stylish bars or in a strip club.

Lake Promenade

If you are looking to spend a relaxing evening than Lake Promenade is best choice. Starting from Bellevue, the boardwalk goes for about three kilometers along the lake towards Tiefenbrunnen. The broadwalk goes for 3 km along the lake to Tiefenbrunnen.

Lindenhof

This is a beautiful hill in the heart of old town from where you can see the amazing view of Zurich.

Train travel is very famous in Europe due to the highly efficient train network. Main railway station of Zurich is Hauptvahnhof from where regular trains to and from other European cities leave and arrives. This station is located in the centre of Zurich city. Major trains served by this station are local S-Bahn commuter trains, Intercity trains (IC and ICN) that connects throughout Switzerland, Cisalpino train of Italy, ICE train of Germany, TGV from France and other night trains from Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Brussels, Barcelona and Paris. You can also travel from London to Switzerland by using services of popular Eurostar trains. For this you can take Eurostar to Paris first and then take any connecting train to Zurich.      

Rhine Falls

Rhine Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Zurich. Rhine Falls are the largest plain waterfalls in Europe region. Between the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zurich, these waterfalls are around 450 ft wide and 75 ft high. You can also go for a boat trip to the rock that divides the fall in 2 halves.

Sprungli

This is not a tourist place of Zurich, but it is a popular bakery of the city with many stores in throughout the city. You can buy chocolate gifts, macaroons and other delicious items here.

Toy Museum

Toy museum of Zurich is another fun place to spend your leisure time. Here you can see a nice collection of Swiss toys from throughout the history. It is a small but amazing museum with helpful staff.

Zoological Garden

This is another great place to enjoy your vacations in Zurich. Here you can see many exotic animals that have been brought here from all over the world.

 Swiss National Museum

This Victorian building consists of rich memories of Swiss art, history, culture and religion. This is one of the best history museums in Switzerland. Here you can see a vast collection of art collections by famous Swiss artists.

Johanna Spyri

Carl Gustav Jung

Carl Gustav Jung was a famous psychiatrist who gave a new direction to the field of psychology. It was his idea to split the psyche into three parts: the ego, personal unconscious and collective unconscious. He also wrote a book, The Psychology of the Unconscious that was published in year 1913.

James Joyce

James Joyce is regarded as one of the most influent writers of 20^th century. His most valuable writing is Ulysses that was published in year 1922. His influence can be seen on many of his successors like Samuel Beckett, William Burrough, Thomas Pynchon and many more.
